  • Served as 38th president of the United States from August 1974 to January 1977
  • Appointed by Richard Nixon after Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in 1973 under the terms of the 25th Amendment
  • Became the President when Richard Nixon resigned in 1974
  • He is currently the only President to have never been elected to be either President or Vice President by the Electoral College
  • Appointed Nelson Rockafeller as his Vice President
  • His 895-day presidency is the shortest of any president who had not died in office
  • Pardoned Richard Nixon for all acts “known and unknown”
